After last year's hog roast, I was left without a functioning camera due to spilling a mixed drink all over my nikon. It took some major operation to get the SD card out of the memory card slot once it was filled with a strawberry margarita. By the way, it wasn't my margarita. But anywho...I am once again armed with a camera and am looking forward to doing a little blogging.

A few months ago, Troy and I (brainstorming while buzzed) decided to take dad to Reelfoot lake for father's day. Since Captain is tired of getting neckties and old spice, it seemed to be a good idea. We were wrong....it was one of our best ideas.

Your probably thinking, "they must have thrown all their fish back". Wrong again. On the way back to the dock, our stringer of fish tangled with the 8 hp motor on the back of the boat. Although, the motor could barely push us around the lake, it will rip a stringer of fish from the side of a boat.

The lake is full of these man made cut-throughs. These served as a great place to get out of the wind.

Absolutely one of the best all-round vacations I have ever taken. Perfect. Happy fathers day Cap!

Death Seat

During a trip to Chicago to attend a Cubs game, I had the opportunity to take a tour of Wrigley field. When I think of Wrigley field some of the first things that pop into my head are obviously the ivy covered walls, Harry Caray, bleacher bums, and Steve Bartman....OOPS!

But during the tour, I was enlightened to a particular culture that takes place in the bleacher seats at Wrigley field - The Death Seat. The bleacher seats at Wrigley are general admission and accommodate approximately 5000 fans. I believe all 5000 were wrapped around the outside of the stadium waiting in line to have their pick of seats in the outfield bleachers. The fans become familiar with each other throughout the long baseball season, and begin to create groups or what they call "families". A family usually sits together in the same area at every game and being general admission seating, there's only one reserved seat. The Death Seat is reserved for the oldest member of the bleacher bums. It's basically straight away center field, on the top row, closest to the aisle for easy access to the concessions and more importantly, the bathroom. The seat is reserved for this old fan for the rest of his/her life. When this fan passes on, the next eldest person is allowed to sit in the death seat until that person dies.

Above is a picture of the location of the Death Seat (the second most famous seat at Wrigley next to the Bartman seat). Below is a picture of The Death Seat, number 1. Pretty cool tradition.

Little Egypt Off Road Trials

Below are a couple videos from the ITSA trials from Little Egypt in Illinois. Sorry about not posting any pictures, they all turned out blurry. I took a close up picture of something lying on the ground and the grass in the picture was blurry because it was growing too fast.

First video is Captain Dick in a mean little C section. I couldn't clean this one all day, unless you count my 4th loop.

Below is the longest single section ever captured on film (or whatever video is captured on these days). It took me 4 hours to upload this video. Good ride Brent. And special thanks to Brad for riding this particular section before I rode it. Would have never payed any attention to the low hanging tree if you wouldn't have found it for me.

During me and Captain's ride on Saturday at Screwboy's house, Screwboy's new neighbor asked if me and Captain would watch as her husband cut down a dead tree on their property. I took this as an opportunity to snap a few photos and a video of the world's slowest falling tree.

The woodpecker above had no fear as mean ol' neighbor cut down his home.

Here he is now dressed like Bob the Builder.

The tree was not going down without a fight. can you see the chain pinched in the tree?

Ran across a few pictures that I had snapped while Captain and I had my TY broken down. One of my many "foul ups" during the trials season was when i crushed my exhaust pipe on a huge log. Wish that I could say I collapsed my exhaust during a wreck or a spectacular crash but basically I tried to use a log as a kickstand and when I tried to do so, I crushed my pipe. The picture above is the pipe after a welding numerous pieces of scrap metal to it and prying and pulling the dent out which caused a big hole. Maybe we should have went with dual exhaust at this point. But instead we did the right thing. The picture below is of Captain Dick working his magic.

During the revamping of the TY, we got an interesting rust removal tip from an unlikely source. What you see here is the new gas tank for the Yamaha filled with water and baking soda (not sure about the amount of either). With the tank filled, Captain hooks the ground from a battery charger to the tank, and hooks the positive to a piece of wire dangling into the tank. Sounds pretty interesting. Although the new tank had only light rust, we decided to give this experiment a try. We were told this method would reverse the rusting process. Who gave us this electrical advice....Menonite Mike! How cool is that?

Talladega '08

Just got back from Talladega with a few pics. This was the 4th annual trip ('05 , '06 & '07) so we just fell right into our old routine. Same hotel, same diet, and same great time. Looking forward to next year already.
If anyone watched the race, this last pic ended up being inaccurate. I believe the 01 car was penalized for running below the yellow line. Smelled a little fishy but he was forced to the end of the lead lap. As far as my Nascar fantasy picks go, at 1 point all 4 of my picks were in the top 10 but 1 out of the 4 drivers that I picked actually finished the race. Son of a bitch!

Nash's to Nash's - Dust to Dust

During my illustrious (<--sarcasm) trials career, every event seems to top the last one. Like women in a beauty pagent, the last one you see is always the best looking. This trials definitely exceeded all expectations. With the Boy Scouts and their parents preparing food, an incredible all you can eat rib dinner, the U.S. National Guard busting their ass, and the Oakland fire dept doing their best to knock down all the dust in the air, this trials has to go down as one of my favorites. As busy as Charlie stayed, and as hard as he worked, I'm not sure he didn't bring in the perfect weather throughout the weekend. Great job by everyone. I probably didn't scratch the surface on all the people I need to thank, but what a great time! This is one of the two pics I captured over the weekend. The other pic will stay in my possesion until I need to blackmail the individual in the picture. The above pic is of Dean in a mean, mean C section. I dropped quite a few points in this C and I doubt I was its's only victim. Dean hasn't rode a trials event in over 15 years and decided this trials would be the one to make his return. I think his confidence was shot down pretty early because the novice riders started on a very technical C section in which Dean promptly wrecked. A few more sections later, he high sided on a hill and fell for about a minute and a half before a rock broke his fall. A half of a loop later Dean ends up with a flat front tire. At this point, after returning from 15 years of retirement, I would be thinking about hanging up my trials boots. But Dean had no quit in him. After replacing his front tire tube, Dean headed out and finished the trials and finished the trials very well. In the pic above, Dean is in the process of cleaning this section and finished the trials with some very impressive rides. I for one was very impressed. For anyone riding the modern historic novice class (Captain Dick), you may want to pay close attention to this fellow!

Camp Nash

If the trials event held in Paris Tennessee this coming weekend is half as fun as the time I had on Sunday, we're all in for a treat. With the weather being as nice as it was, the weekend was poised to be a great one. When I first got a glance of Nash's land I thought to myself "this place was made for trials". This land has all the normal slopes and off-camber turns associated with trials, along with some sandy bottoms that will undoubtedly acquire some points from even the best of the best trials riders (that means you Jessie).

After a few hours of pulling tape, Charlie introduced us to Wanda. Wanda prepared a lunch fit for a king. We were treated as absolute royalty during this meal and then we were sent out the door with an assortment of snacks to munch on. Thank You Wanda.

After cleaning up and taping off the few remaining sections, we retired to a few beers and some of Wanda's trail mix. From the little time I spent out in Paris, I can tell that there have been some people who have worked their ass off to make this a great event. I have no doubt that it will not disappoint.

Oh yeah...there's also a pond on the property with some fish in it.

Huge thanks to PeeWee for hauling ass back up to the truck to retrieve his camera and snap these shots. Hell, I still don't believe the fish I caught, so I know that nobody else would either.

2 broken scapulas (whatever that is), 1 broken rib, and a bruised lung. Sounds like he was pretty lucky - depending on what a scapula is. OOOh I just looked it up - it connects the arm bone to the collar bone. I still think he was lucky. That looked nasty!

This is usually how the Septers/Provences roll at get-togethers. A little ball or horseshoes mixed with some food and drink is always a great combination. And with Cassie turning 11 and Lori turned another year older ( I didn't forget her age, I'm just protecting the innocent) it was a perfect storm for a ball game.

The adults vs. kids game was a hottly contested match in which there were no losers. With Captain and T-Rex covering the outfield duties and Jenny protecting first base, Nate was mowing down batters with a mix of underhand, overhand, and an occasional knuckler. As evidence in the pictures, T-Rex must have read the scouting report on Cassie and Ryan. Look how he plays Cassie straight up and has Ryan a pull hitter. Nice hitting Ryan, reading the defense and going the other way.

For the folks who missed Hyslop Hills, I hate to be the barer of bad news but you missed a good one. That ride put a little fun back in trials for me. I for one have been aggravated with my riding here lately, and I still think I'm riding like shit. But Hyslop Hills made me remember that this trials stuff is a lot of fun even if I am making dumb mistakes (missing gates, entering sections in neutral, etc...). Thanks to the Baker boys, the Hawk, Dan, and Dad. That was a damn good time.

The video above is the Hawk in section 7. I picked up the action after a fairly steep/slick hill climb up to a right hander and then down hill. Check out the Captain altering the section in the bottom right. What a guy!

This is Jeroni Fajardo (as the Trials Central website tells me). He's checking out the task at hand which happens to be approximately 20' of vertical rock to climb. I'm not 100% sure it's him in the video below, but whoever it is, he works his ass off to avoid dabbing.

Check out his minder as he initially goes to grab the bike but pulls a "Matrix" move to avoid touching the bike.

Here's Captain standing in front of the section 15 exit gate. You just roll over this rock to exit the section. Luckily I go ta little video but I still don't believe what I saw.

This is Fuji in section 15 on day 2. Very breifly as the video starts you can see his back tire hanging off of a rock that he uses to propel his bike and himself to another rock before screaming down a hill to get lined up for the exit gate (pictured above). Neato!

I failed to capture any of the action on Sunday, but I did get a few shots of the pre-trials campfire. I'll try to set the stage - stand around for a good portion of the day under a pop up canopy to avoid the rain. Late in the afternoon, around the same time that the rain was letting up, Fearless Charlie serves up a meal including some of the best crappie I've ever eaten. Trent drops off some gumbo and cornbread that really hit the spot on a chilly, rainy afternoon. Stuff down as much as possible and then waddle over to the campfire. Menonite Mike, Pee Wee, and Pap grab their guitars and start putting on a show. After a couple hours of alcohol consumption and learning about catawba worms, we look over and Troy's asleep. Captain could not let this go...

But, Capatin's been the focus of a sleeping pic before.

Breaking New Ground

I captured a few shots from this last weekend's action at the new training ground. Big thanks to Mike and his dad for allowing us to come out and act like complete idiots. He claims that if we come out and laugh, cut up, and drink a few beers with him that he doesn't mind us coming out to the farm. After careful consideration, we obliged.

This is actually a pretty mean downhill with the added bonus of a log that was wanting to throw me over my handlebars. It scared the hell out of me but Captain made it look pretty simple.

After a long day of riding, cleaning, and a few breaks , we settled in on this rock to play on.

This rock was a bitch ride up and if you reached the top, you were rewarded with another rock to climb. More times than not, I failed to reach the top but holy shit what a good time. And later that night, I slept like a rock.

Sunday me and Captain ("Captain and I" for any of my readers studying English) headed to Chapel Hill to practice for the upcoming trials season. After riding our preexisting sections for a while, we decided that some newer challenges were in order. We found what we were looking for. The pics below are from one of the new sections we laid out. And as always, the pictures do this section no justice.

Yes, there is a good reason as to why I'm falling over the handlebars, staring at my front tire with my shoulder dropping as I lean too far to the right. It's because I suck.

The highlight of the day may have been my nieces getting their first spin on the new bike. Cassie says "helmet laws suck" as she jumps on and takes the bike for a spin. She has two riding styles -riding with no feet on the pegs at all or with one foot on one peg and one on the brake. Granny quickly put a stop to the riding without a helmet.

After a few instructions from Papa, Erin was off to the races. She laid it down once after riding with her foot on the brake for a half of a lap. She got back up, took off and soon had a look of confusion on her face as she headed towards the big concrete front porch where I was sitting. She had forgotten all of Papa's instructions. With the bike wide open and the look of terror on her face, she narrowly missed running up the front steps and finally got the bike to complete stop. She quickly hopped off and got as far from the bike as she could. That experience may have ended her riding career but something tells me probably not.

Saturday Captain, Pee Wee, I spent a little time in the woods doing our best to stay upright while navigating some fairly slick terrain. Big ole muchas gracias to Bob for letting us ride the ranch. Avoid the root while trying to keep wide to set up a turn.

Stay wide and do your best at turning through the newly formed pond and whatever lurks beneath it.

Superbowl Sunday Eve

Here's some shots from Saturday's action. Conditions were pretty slick but I still could not capture that perfect Nubbie moment to set the bar high for all ITSA members to strive for. Although I did end up doing a backwards somersault after an attempted kick start. Hope that's not on film.

We even had the opportunity to practice sitting around a campfire. As you can see, Captain does not like his smores medium rare.

Log Cabin Section

The Guru mentioned in one of the ITSA forums that we need to practice for the upcoming trials season. So Sunday, me and Captain headed for the Chapel Hill International Twinshock Training Yard (C.H.I.T.T.Y) for some work on our riding skills. When I showed up, Captain was carving out a mean ass section that neither one of us has a chance at cleaning. I swear there are 35 turns in a section the size of a kitchen. After abusing ourselves in that section we reclaimed a section of woods (now that deer hunting season is over) that features the two logs in the following pics/movies. It looks as if someone had started building a log cabin and thought "ah screw it" after placing two logs. But it provided a lot of fun and gave us a chance to practice our bad habits. Enjoy...

I know what your thinking, "If that was his second attempt, I'd hate (or love) to see his first attempt." Amazingly his first attempt was more successful. Sorry about the quick ending to the video but my knee jerk reaction was to shut the camera off and run, so I didn't catch the carnage that soon followed. May have cost the Captain a nubbie...

For all the ITSA members who stop in from time to time, I threw together some pics that have been sitting on my memory card for the last year. I didn't get quite the number of pics/movies as in the past due to the fact that I've been suckered into riding now. For someone who thought he'd never be caught on a motorcycle, this year was a pretty big change in how I spend my spare time, how I spend my spare money, and the people I call friends. Riding trials (or attempting to do so) has introduced me to some new challenges and a great bunch of guys who I have to thank for an outstanding year. A lot of fun and a lot of memories.

But on a serious note, I'm putting the finishing touches on the TY but will be mounting the Captain's Green Machine for this weekend's ITSA series finale. My solar panels are ordered and will be mounted soon.

Congratulations to Captain Dick for becoming the International Twin Shock Association North American Champion in the Modern Twin Shock Novice Class (that's a mouthful). Here, our champion is enjoying a refreshing beverage in style. This picture was taken during a post race ceremony. Captain was trying to make PeeWee feel more accepted by also wearing his shirt backwards.

Here's a few videos from section 25 on Sunday. Any comments heard during the videos were strictly "the beer talking".

It was a pretty normal Friday at the office. Normally people kind of take advantage of "Casual Friday" by dressing down in some more comfortable attire to end the work week. Well this guy went a little overboard. I mean who would dress like that in an office setting? I can't speak for him but you'll never catch me in a pair of jeans and a red shirt......

For the uninitiated, this is Big A (sitting down) whose sweet girlfriend decided that a huge guy in angel wings and a diaper, doing his rendition of Sharp Dressed Man would be a good birthday gift. Also she thought it would be a great idea to have this take place at the office. Man was she right! I'm not sure what he did to piss her off, but he'll think twice next time. Cheers Big A!

Phoenix Golf - 9/5/07

Decided to switch it up this week and play a different course after the High schoolers overtook Percy Warner last week. From what I hear they ain't leaving any time soon so we took our money to Harpeth Hills. Very excited about this course.

Pros : Pace of play, Par 5's (could be a con), cash register works, Tee times, no high school matches, big greens, turkey and deer, yardage clearly marked, and it's something different.

Cons : Costs 7 dollars more to play nine holes.

Not sure where we'll be playing next week. It'll be a lot closer to payday so everybody will probably be broke.

Weekend in Greeneville

Sunday I participated in my first trials event in Greeneville Tennessee. I have to say that I experienced a wide range of emotions. I think I started out excited but quickly turned to nervousness. I wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. After it was all said and done, I was glad it was over but if I wasn't so damn tired I think I would have wanted to ride again.

I have been a spectator at some ITSA events, but to ride an event with some of these guys really makes me realize how much fun it is and how much room I have for improvement. I made some dumb mistakes like missing parts of sections and starting in second gear to name a couple. Thanks to everyone who helped me along this weekend because I sure needed it.

Here's a few pictures I took before I ditched my camera. It's tough to ride your first trials event while taking pictures and keeping score.

The crew was in full force this week on what turned out to be a (what Leyland calls) MUUUUGGGYYY day. We fought thru with condensate pouring out of our golf bags from the hot air coming in contact with the cold beer covertly stashed in our bags.

We did have to wait on a crew tee-ing off in front of us and am I glad we did. I turned after I heard "uh oh" to see a tee shot bounce off an on coming soccer mom's SUV. But no harm done. All glass still intact. The fella that hit the errant tee shot tees up one more only to hit it in the same lane of traffic he previously hit into. So third times a charm and this time he pretty much putts the thing off of the tee box to finally get his round started. So after his tee shot, he's shooting his sixth shot on a par 3. Snappy narrowly missed having to dig his ball out of the trunk of a VW bug. I put a tee shot in some one's back yard after bouncing down the entrance to Cheekwood. So anyone reading this who has shyed away from playing with us because you feel like you'll embarrass yourself.....PLEASE!!!!

Another week on the links for the Phoenix Crew with it's share of high drama. It's amazing how many pro golfers come out to these Metro courses. You can tell they're pros by just watching them on the tee box, taking their time, working every last detail out of their swing. It's a sight. Then their next shot from is usually from the woods or an adjacent fairway. Finally, when these pros reach the green, the time and energy they put into each putt is well worth admission. Enough sarcasm...

FYI - that eagle on hole number 6 would have been a 7 if the flag would have been pulled from the hole. I chipped from just off the green and this ball was a scorcher rolling down hill but the pin got in the way and knocked the ball straight down in the hole. And no, the pin was not lying on the green just past the hole (an old scramble trick).

Here's some pictures from ESPN Sunday night baseball. Originally the game was scheduled for 12:00 est but was moved back to 8:00 on Sunday which makes for a long and tiresome Monday.

Some blackhawk helicopters and airborne rangers provided the pregame entertainment.

The game featured a bench clearing staring match after Edgar Renteria was hit by a pitch in the first inning. After everyone returned to their seats all was well and good. Next pitch, Renteria attempts to steal second base but instead of sliding he decides to clothesline the second baseman. All's well that ends well. Braves win 5-4.

With Captain laying low and Big A pulling some overtime, the Phoenix crew was down to 3 players this week. This is probably one of the better scorecards you'll see on this site with nobody posting a snowman and only one 7. I picked up 4 strokes from last week so if my math is correct, by next week I should be shooting a 37. We did pair up with Otto again and he shot a lot better this week and kept his cussing to a minimum. If my records are correct, TW posted the first birdie for the Phoenix crew this year.

Here's the official results from a rain soaked Percy Warner. The crew waited in the parking lot to see what the weather might do and after a few sprinkles come and passed we decided to give it a go. We pay, walk to the first tee box and then....you guessed it - it starts raining. Weather cleared up after 2 holes and turned out to be pretty nice. With the addition of Special K and the Captain, there were 5 of us but I haven't seen the others' scorecard but sounds like it was a long first time out on the course for Special K. Better luck next week....

TW made one hell of an effort on his last shot of the day. If I get the story right, his approach to number 9 hits the green, rolls past and hits this BFI dumpster beyond the hole (blue object pictured). I walk up to see where my ball ended up and notice TW lining up his shot. Now follow me here, he's hitting beside a dumpster, between 2 trees, over a cart path, over a fence onto a green sloping away from him and nearly hits the pin. Rolls it within 4 inches. Your typical up and down. Nice Par!

Captain and myself decided to enjoy the great weather by getting outside and doing what we love : drinking beer. But while we were doing that we squeezed in a little golf. Most of the time it's sort of fun to get out as a single or a twosome, and get paired up with whoever from wherever. Since last Saturday, I've played 81 holes of golf and met a bunch of different people. You can learn a lot from people you get paired up with. One - everyone I've ever played with actually plays about the same, a few good shots and a few really bad but for the most part everyone plays somewhere between bogey and double bogey golf. Something else I sort of knew but now it's kind of comical, you can spend a boat load of money on clubs and fancy clothes and still suck. I can't say that I wouldn't like to own a nice set of clubs, but my blue light specials seem to be treating me just fine.

A little chillier out this week but we fought through the sunny 50 degree temps (which was actually pretty nice) to post these great scores. Big A has perfected "topping the ball" as I think 2 of his drives made it off the ground. The rest of the crew seems to have abandoned us which leaves room on the team to get paired up with 18 year olds with "shorts" on that hang down to their ankles and hats on sideways. That hasn't happened yet but there has been some opportunities. Anyway, next week I'm taking off to get my wisdom teeth yanked out of my head. I hope anyone reading this leaves me their horror stories of how bad that procedure went for their self. Plenty of applesauce and Jello for me next week.

Congratulations to the West VirginIa men's basketball team on winning the 2007 N.I.T. championship. The championship t-shirts made for an interesting story as the manufacturer misspelled our 35th state. With the missing 'I' the t-shirt reads "West Vagina". Team Buster recieved some bad news as we showed up at the bowling alley last night. Buster, the anchor of the team, alledges his nieces roughed him up and put him on the DL with a sore back. But he was able to watch some great bowling action excluding myself. Everyone must beware there's a bug going around and it can cause you to lose your temper, swear a lot, and makes you daydream about golfing. It's the "Shitty Bowling" bug and I am ate up with it. Can't wait to start golfing on Wednesdays so I'll have something else to complain about. Fore!!

Team Buster was back in action this week with some key additions as Snappy decided to come out and show us who our daddy is. That's alright if he's like me, the more he bowls the worse he'll get. Also Ms. Amy showed up to root us on and make fun of us. Bus left a little early and the computer didn't keep his scores, which I think he is o.k. with that. Special K was kind enough to allow me to use her ball for my spare ball (I used it while she wasn't looking) and I think it was good for converting about 90% of my spares. Her ball weighs around 7 pounds and you would be hard pressed to squeeze a pencil eraser in the finger holes but the thing brings results. But it wasn't enough to top Snap's big scores. Better luck next week.

I was watching the news tonight and saw that Vanderbilt beat Kentucky in men's basketball and thought to myself "good for the 'Dores". But the next story was what caught my eye. The Comodore baseball team beat Boston College with a walk-off dinger with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth. But more surprising was that the Black and Gold are 10-0 and ranked #1 in the Nation which is pretty damn nifty. It is pretty early in the year but since College basketball is all I can find on TV, keeping up with Vandy's baseball team may give me my baseball fix till April. And the pitch.....DING!

I was invited to Gatlinburg this past weekend to stay in a 4 story cabin with some friends and some friends of friends. I was a little reluctant to go when I was first invited but decided to gather up some shit and head east. Ended up having a good time and did exactly what I wanted - NOTHING. Unless you count some stair climbing and 12 oz. curls, I sat my fat ass on a couch and did not move. Beautiful. Huge thanks to Jenn for setting up the trip and I hope you get your deposit back after some of the hell raising that went on.

Team Buster (as we're called) was back in action this past Wednesday having a little after-work fellowship. The team was forced to vacate our lane promptly at 6:00 to make room for a league that usually starts at approx 7:30. You may be able to see a pattern forming on many of my posts to come. The theme is how we will be "unimportant" on league night and on the flip side, how they roll the red carpet out for us when it's not league night. Waaaaa. We did finish off 3 pitchers and even worked in a game of darts. Anyone who's reading this is invited out on Wednesdays after work to enjoy a little fellowship with us (excluding serial killers and vegetarians)...

Motorsickle Races

Captain told me 2 weeks ago that this past Friday would be the coldest day of the year. I thought "what the hell?". Then he told me that Friday was the return of the motorcycle races at the Calsonic Arena in "Shebvull". I knew exactly what he meant then. Historically, when we go watch these guys, we freeze our asses off and this year was no different. We did come prepared with layers and layers upon layers of clothes which is always fun. The video below is the 125 Pros and these guys did not disappoint. I wish I had continued recording and caught the end of the race. On the video, the rider in the lead has a good bit of ground between him and second. "Second place guy" ends up closing the gap and on the final turn, never let off the gas when he crashed his bike literally on the finish line. He rode that sucker all the way down, never letting off. From where we were sitting, it did not look like he crossed the finish line, but I think he was awarded second place. Good stuff...

Pictured above is a souvenir from the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. While the crew was in Memphis, walking around Doug Kallita's Mac Tools trailer, we stumbled upon some shiny things laying outside the pits and used our 5 finger discount to snatch 'em up. Turns out they were valves to a top fuel ride. This shiny thing has been laying around in my bedroom ever since I picked it up and I hadn't thought much about it. Then I came across these on Bob Gilbertson's driver blog. If you read his latest entry, it looks like the Autolite/Prestone crew is giving one away as a prize to a trivia contest. Neat-o!

The fully constructed dartboard w/ backboard has been installed and is ready for some action. According to the NDA (National Darters Association) website, the center of the bullseye is to be 5'-8" above the floor. Although they do not show up on the picture, my wall is caked with calculations and marks trying to get the board at the right height above the floor. The thing weighs close to 450 pounds, which is not easy to hold with one hand while the other is operating a drill, tape, or pencil. But she is up and even at the correct height (+/- 6"). Christmas Holiday Boredom

Over the holidays, I came up with a way to keep myself busy so I wouldn't be lured to join the nutcases running around the malls. Like all my great ideas, I was at the bowling alley when I thought of this one. Me and the regular Wednesday bowling crew were forced to throw darts because a bowling league was about to begin and our lane was stripped from us. I was checking out the dartboard and particularly the backboard that prevents you from turning your surrounding wall into swiss cheese, and thought "I can make one of those". After a quick inspection, I had a plan in place and began compiling my materials. It seemed like it would be pretty cheap and easy.

The backboard at the bowling alley was approximately 30"X30". I took a little more precaution and added some more protection to my backboard.

Basically here's what I come up with:

Piece of plywood with some cork glued to it and a piece of felt wrapped around and stapled to the backside, and a wooden border put around the outside. Pretty cheap and easy huh? Easy - yes , Cheap - not as cheap as I dreamed. All prices are approximate:

* Plywood - $9
* Cork - $28
* (2) 6 foot 1x2 boards - $3
* 3M spray adhesive - $6
* Staple gun - $17
* Staples - $2
* Six Pack - $6
* Mexican dinner w/ margaritas - $23 (you have to take a lunch break, it's state law)
* Felt - Free (after signing up for a credit card)
* Dart Board - $10
* 2 sets of darts - $5
* Total - $109

That there is an R.V.

A couple weekends of work have the R.V. looking pretty sweet. What looked like a trailerpark after an F5, is looking very worthy of a trip to Bristol Dragway this Spring. A little elbow grease goes a long way.

We are still working on getting the stripper pole installed. And of course you do not roll around on factory rims. The first upgrade when pimping your sled is the addition of 24" wires and then you drop it so low you bottom out on the painted lines on the interstate. Holla acha boy....

I attended the Titans vs. Colts game this weekend in what turned out to be one hell of a game. It was also a game I really didn't give the Titans a chance to win. This game made up for me missing the 4th quarter comeback last week vs the Giants. Rob Bironas with a 60 yard field goal to seal the deal. I think the wind was blowing around 136 mph. I think that's #18 at the end of the 45 yard line watching the game. He probably wasn't as happy as I was .

A big, unexpected win can cause some celebration during the post-game party.

Screwboy's father-in-law grew up around Danville and has kept in contact with these guys over the years. After dinner and some games there are a few after dinner drinks with a little karaoke. To burn off some of the fixins, a kickball game broke out at the Captain's house. After stuffing as much food down ourselves as possible, there's nothing better than running around the yard chasing a ball. Here we have a pretty mean lineup with Ryan leading off, Cassie on deck, and Erin in the cleanup role. K.T. provided some laughs by always being in the way. Just ask Screwboy how he liked K.T. dumping him on his lid while chasing a flyball. Good time..

Big ol' thanks to Patsy, Jenny and Julie for providing a great meal, cleaning up after, and hosting a Thanksgiving dinner while I ran around in the backyard and hung out in the garage doing nothing but taking up space.

World Championship Bar-B-Que

I got a chance to tour the Jack Daniels distillery this past Saturday during the 18th Annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg. Most of the competitors were packing up by the time we completed the tour, but here are a few pics that were taken.

This is some of the "mash" at the top of one of the fermenters. No need for Nasonex after getting a whiff of that.

This is the kids and Julie looking down a 10' barrel full of charcoal during the "mellowing" process where the bourbon (at that time) is transformed into whiskey. A drop takes 4 to 6 days to go from the top to the bottom.

After the tour we got a chance to walk thru the bar-b-que competition area where some of the participants had some interesting names for their business.

Soccer Uncle

I finally made it out to my niece/nephew's soccer game on Saturday. I don't have a minivan or a soccer ball sticker on my truck, but I officially became a soccer uncle. As much as I laugh at all the soccer moms yelling at the players on the field, I found myself doing just that. Helluva good time. I put together a video montage of the games. Ryan is number 4 and Cassie is number 14. Cassie's field is a lot bigger so I couldn't get quite as close. In the video you'll get some soccer highlights, some upset kids, happy kids, and Ryan's impression of Gene Simmons. Pay attention, Ryan loves to watch his shadow as he runs. Talladega '06

I must say sorry to all my fans, I haven't found a lot of time to post anything new but thought I'd throw a couple Talladega pics at ya from last weekend. Big A hooked us up with some good seats straight up from the entrance of the pits which at a 2 and a half mile track seems to be some great seats.

This flyover looked about eye level when these guys went by. Pretty damn cool.

You'll quickly learn in Talladega, the fans stand up and get in your way a lot.

Fish fry / Bonfire

This past weekend the 2nd annual Chapel Hill Fish fry went off without a hitch. Folks from far and wide came to celebrate my birthday and shower me with gifts. Or maybe people came because we were offering up free food. Whatever the case may be, I had a great time mingling with some folks I don't get to see a whole lot. There is too many thank yous to get in this post but thanks to everyone for showing up and pitching in.

After stuffing our faces and a brief volleyball game it was time for sitting 'round and attempting a bon fire. I like this picture because it looks like none of the Provences wanted their faces to be seen.

Well here we go, it didn't take long to get the fire going. The bottom of a playhouse, some sticks the girls picked up around the yard, and 1 doghouse makes a mean fire. The circle of chairs quickly backed up after the doghouse made it to the fire. After a few small brush fires were put out around the yard, everyone settled down around a pretty nice fire.

Julie + "campfire" = Smores. As you can see, you have to get pretty inovative to roasting around a fire so hot. This is Julie holding a rake with marshmellow skewers stuck in it's prongs.

Fish Fry - Saturday, September 16

The second annual Chapel Hill Fish Fry will be held, as you might have guessed, in Chapel Hill on September 16. Plans are to start cooking around 2:00. My guess is that the menu reads pretty close to last year's menu : Fish (amberjack, red snapper), fries, hush puppies...yada yada yada. Guests (pussies) who don't like fish can bring their own entree to throw on the grill.

As "fellowship" runs into the evening, a bonfire is scheduled for later that evening and depending on weather, I plan on bringing a tent and passing out outside.

There should be plenty of food but guests are encouraged to B.Y.O.B. Above are some action shots of the 2006 PH.A.R.T. fishing trip which departed from Orange Beach, Alabama.

Round Rock vs. Nashville

The Sounds tried to lock up the American North division last night, but decided to wait at least one more game before they uncork any champagne. You would have thought the Sounds' hurler hit 16 batters and walked 11 before he was pulled. He only gave up 2 hits in 1-2/3 innings but, he also walked 3, hit 3, and gave up seven runs. Then the knuckle-baller came in and settled down the Express but it was too late. Round Rock 14 - Sounds 3.

Well, this may be the last Phoenix Golf scorecard I post for a while as it seems more and more like a hassle to get on the course for nine after work. For the last two weeks there's been some middle school matches being played in front of us and it sucks waiting for so long between hacks. The Phoenix Crew may take it's beer and move elsewhere.

Big A did send a message to the group in front of us when we were hitting our second shot on #8. At about 50 yards from the pin Big A pulls out his nine iron because beyond the pin, at about 100 yards, stands the group in front of us tee-ing off on nine. We were joking about hitting into them when I turned and I heard "told ya", only to look up and see a guy weighing in around 3 bills doing a belly dance to avoid Big A's ball bouncing off the cart path up his nose. No punches were thrown.

I'll keep the Phoenix Crew fans informed about next Wednesday and what athletic road we choose to keep us entertained.

Sorry for being so lazy about posting these scores. I know the Phoenix Golf fans have been anxiously waiting for a scorecard. I couldn't let this week slide by being the best score I have ever posted. Remember kids: you don't have to hit it like Daly or Woods when your putter is working for ya.

Some of the Phoenix Crew also played in a scramble this weekend supporting the Christiana Middle School Baseball Team. Big A, Chris (bassist from Skullkin) , Captain Dick, and myself teamed up at the Blackberry Ridge golf course in Shelbyville on Saturday. We cheated just enough to finish first in the second flight which is kind of like winning the N.I.T. basketball tournament or being the winner of the losers bracket.

Bowling Anyone?

Everyone is invited out for a night of Bowling on Friday night. I haven't heard if there is a set time to show up or not, but I will try to arrive somewhere between 5:00 & 6:00. The old Watson's building has been turned into a Bowling Alley and the report from the Captain is that the beer is cheaper than at Smyrna Lanes. I forget who all I have invited but if you are reading this blog, consider this your invitation. Below are a map and some written directions:

From Nashville - Take I-24 East and exit at Old Hickory Blvd. Turn left on to Old Hickory Blvd and the lanes are on the left. You may or may not have to turn on Owen Drive, but I trust you will figure it out.

From Murfreesboro - Take I-24 West and exit at Old Hickory Blvd. Turn right on to Old Hickory Blvd and the lanes are on the left. You may or may not have to turn on Owen Drive, but I trust you will figure it out.

From Chapel Hill - Pack a cooler full of Beer and ice. Go to Captain's house. Follow him.

From Knoxville - Stay at home

Eventful Weekend

Pictured below is the Titan Bus (Short bus, Titan Tank....) sitting on I-24, westbound in Murfreesboro. Yes, you're right thats a funny place to park it unless your throttle cable snaps when you are trying to get up to speed on the on ramp. From what I understand, it is a motherf&%$er to get over 3 lanes of traffic full of assholes when your short bus is idling and coasting to a stop.
Not to fear, Jonathan (Not so Fat Terry Bradshaw) rigged us up a hand operated throttle cable from some component on the engine, thru the firewall to be operated from inside the bus.

So, let's see, one hand to steer, one hand to accelerate, and one hand to shift gears. How in the world are you supposed to answer your phone or eat a cheeseburger. Actually driving this bus requires 2 people (preferably sober). Pictured below is Hoghead, preparing to get the bus back home 'cause anywhere is better than the I-24 on ramp. Titans lose 19-16.

After a Saturday night Titans game and a little tailgating afterwards, 5:00 A.M. comes awfully early. With an 8:00 tee time at Montgomery Bell Golf course in Burns Tennessee, me and the Captain had to get on the road pretty early and meet Big A and Bus at the course. Other than our golf games, we were not disappointed. The course was a nice change from the old Smyrna Municipal. We began to think we were playing at the Burns City Zoo after about 9 holes. Big A just about had his sights zeroed in by the eighth hole as he put a drive right on a doe walking across the fairway but missed by inches. This guy walked out on number 15.

Among the wildlife, there was a little golf played. Here we see the Captain with all his fixes, you know - Beer and Cig while he putts. If he ever wants to be like John Daly, he's gonna have to find a way to work some pills or a slot machine out on the golf course with him to go along with the "Currs and Saggerts".
As for the scores, I think we all shot about 3 beers on the front and 3-5 beers on the back.

Phoenix Golf - 8/09/06

The Phoenix crew headed out to Percy Warner with nothing but blue skies overhead and a light breeze to keep us from overheating only to be rained out an have to leave after 5 holes. But, on the post below, I have linked some videos of our various swings for y'all to enjoy.
