Browsing the Net

I was browsing the net today and came across this article from ESPN.com and thought it was interesting. You are probably like me and telling yourself "I don't remember ESPN being there that day." Very strange... Click on pic for larger view

More from Bristol

I promised my fans some more pictures from our snowy weekend and I deliver! Here we go...
All pics by Big A

This is a 15' tall Food City shopping cart. It made it's way down the front stretch a couple of times but when it came upon the 36 degree banking in the corners, the driver took her to the apron.

The second snow storm of the day started about 30 laps into the Busch race.

The guys decided to hang up any track drying efforts and just wait it out.

Here you can barely make out any grandstands on he opposite side of the track. I think this is when I exited the stands for a pepper & onion smothered Italian sausage dog..yummy.

Race Weekend

Here's a couple pics from this weekend in Bristol/Abingdon. Big A joined me on the trip & has some better quality pics so be patient and I'll have 'em up soon.
This is "A Tailor's Lodging", the bed & breakfast we stayed at (in separate beds) in Abingdon.

Friday's Pole Day was cancelled, so we had plenty of time to cruise the Bristol grounds. We looked down the 1/4 mile which will be the site of the '06 Thunder Valley Nationals. Um...earplugs - check!

Ever wanted to pick up a bottle of Boone's Farm but didn't want to go to Wal-Mart and the liquor store? Just go to the Abingdon Super Wal-Mart. Better ask for paper bags so you can drink the Boone's Farm in secrecy.

This is the best pic I have of the snowball fight while we were in a snow delay during the Busch race. Crews were scraping the snow off the pit tarps & fans were using the snow on the bleachers.

And here is your winner of the Food City 500, none other than Kurt Push who nudged his way through the field to take the checkers.

I'll see if Big A will give me permission to use his pics. Check back soon....

Phoenix Bowling - 3/22/06

Well, one more week of bowling in the books and it looks like we have hit a wall with these scores. Granted, I wasn't there this week to clean out the gutters on my way to a couple 122 games. Anyway, I know in Mr. Don's case and myself, we are looking forward to a break from the bowling and picking up the clubs. F.Y.I. - anyone interested in playing 9 holes after work on Wednesdays, let me know. Probably after daylight saving's time begins is when we'll start (weather permitting).

I'm off to snowy Bristol this weekend for what should be a great time. Partly cloudy, high of 46 & low of 29 on Sunday. Snow for the Busch race is a possibility. That makes me reconsider going shirtless with a huge #8 on my chest but we'll see. Brrrr....

Phoenix Bowling Night - 3/15/06

It looks like another great week for the Phoenix crew. Buster's game has come around considerably. Big ups to my peeps! If I know this crew, Big A, Special K, and Mr. Don all went to McCabes Pub to celebrate. Mr. Don ordering a diet coke, Special with a mudslide, and Big A buying shooters for the entire bar. Wish I could have been there. I'll try to have pictures of my week up soon. Till then ....

Tha Pede

My roomate and I decided we were going to Stampede's on Saturday. Had a very good time, met up with some friends, and even was reaquainted with some people from high school that we haven't seen in a long time. I even ran across a couple of guys i used to work with when I was just out of high school.

This is Steve, a friend we met out, talking to a girl he's had his eyes on for a while. Actually, I think he's had one eye on her and one on her backside. We were all guilty of that. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time they met. Good luck Steve. Sorry 'bout the picture quality, all pics are from my camera phone.

After we shut down Stampede's, we were off to the Awful Waffle. Here we have Mike after his meal. We either bored him to sleep or he drank enough at the club to pass out at the table. He thought if he sat there upright, we wouldn't notice. Good try!

He finally gave up the act and started snoring. I would bet Mike will quit drinking today for the third time this week. Cheers to that!

Phoenix Bowling Night - 3/8/06

Pretty good turn out for bowling this week. With the spring-like weather we've been having, it's becoming harder & harder to keep the after-work fun indoors. None the less, they do serve beer at the Strike n Spare Bowling center, so that's a plus. Although every week there seems to be a common occurrence at the bowling lanes. You can observe us bowlers staring at the snack bar, very focused, much like a hunter who thinks he/she hears a deer walking through the woods. What we are waiting for is the bartender to emerge from the kitchen so we can buy some refreshments (alcohol). Sometimes the bartender can be very elusive, so you really have to time your approach right & not spook him/her or they will return to their safe haven in the kitchen. Oh well, pretty soon we'll be sneaking beer on @ McCabe golf club anyway.

Here's the scores, & yes we did bowl all 10 frames even though our scores look as if we stopped in the seventh frame. Big Mike made his debut on the PBN (Phoenix Bowling Night) tour, and posted some decent scores & took home one of the strike n spare pots.

If you need help with the terminology in the Strike n Spare poker score sheet, check this site out.

Phoenix Bowling Night 3/1/06

Here's the scores for last week. Sorry about the delay. I may have not even posted this week if it wasn't for Big A's huge 5th game. That's right 5th game. With the beer consumption on it's normal pace, you might have thought that the scores may fall but not this week. I'm pretty sure I remember Special K saying that the 179 she bowled in her first game was her highest game ever.

Everyone is invited out Wednesday (tomorrow) for some more bowling action. Mr. manager guy says it's $12 , all you can bowl. Hope to see some new faces.

I tried some Mackeson Stout on a friends referral and was pleasantly surprised. Very stout and strangely a little sweet. If you can find any, and want something a helluva lot different from the yellow stuff, give it a try.
